Ponte della Musica
Ponte della Musica is the winning entry for the Commune di Roma international competition in 2000. It is the first public footbridge to cross the Tiber River since the Roman times; a 200m link between the cultural neighborhoods of Flaminio and Viale dell Olimpiadi.
The design of the bridge serves multiple purposes. First and foremost as an urban place maker for pedestrians. The 10m wide deck serves as a new urban space for exhibits and festivals. Second, the bridge allows for potential public vehicle usage.
The design also allows for connections from street level to the banks of the Tiber with the use of stairs incorporated into the anchoring piers. The two inclined trussed and their dramatic lighting at night further enhances the place-making of this piece of urban architecture/ infrastructure project.
